Berwyn wins best puppy in breed at Crufts

by Sarah Finch

Field Trial secretary for the Brittany Club of Great Britain.

We’re a big fan of your food – its pretty much the only thing my boy will eat. He’s finishing off a bag of Fit and Fast!, then he’ll be moving on to Hike On! as we increase our training before the shooting season. Brittanys hunt wide and fast, so they cover a lot of ground. Plus my boy only has a small appetite, so he needs the calories. He’s also having the Salmon Oil, and he gets some of the Kronch Bar if we’re out all day. He’s a picky sod, but he loves the salmon food – so it’s nice to have a range of options that are all salmon-based. He’s doing really well on the food too – going nicely in the field and looking good for the show ring, he got best puppy in breed at Crufts.

My boy’s name is Jassendue Manet’s Medley, pet name Berwyn. He was 10 months at Crufts and 8 months in the hunting photos.

Not even a tree can get in the way of Team Spalding’s success

By Colin Spalding

Colin Spalding1

We attended our Final race of the season at Bowlands Trails near Blairgowrie at the weekend and on a very technical, wet, muddy trail.

I was out first on the bike with Dexter and in very difficult conditions for the bike. I had a high speed crash which resulted in me having a head on collision with a tree which resulted in my helmet being cracked all the way through and me with heavy bruising to the left hand side of my body. I managed to complete the trail and lie in 3rd place.

Colin Spalding2

After medical attention, I decided to continue with the rest of my races that day and finished day 1 with a 2nd in the 2 dog nordic scooter and 1st in the 1 dog open scooter.

On day 2 although i was still very sore we had 3 good runs and we moved up to 2nd on the bike and first in the 2 dog nordic scooter and 1st in the 1 dog open scooter. Once again we are so proud of our dogs and what they have achieved this season they have exceeded all our expectations.

Colin Spalding3

We would like to thank CSJ Canine Specialist Foods for their support and products that have kept the dogs in peak condition throughout the season.

Big comeback for Beth and Danny

Fitzgeralds
Wonderful news from Beth and Danny Fitzgerald
By Bethan Fitzgerald
“Danny’s knee is so far better than ever and he’s out on his bike a lot strengthening it up.

We’ve been keeping busy with a litter of 10 puppies. They are three weeks old now and doing fine, mum is great but I’m sure she will be walking away in the next week leaving me with all the hard work!!!!
All the dogs are on CP30 and salmon oil at the moment and looking fab.We have been given our best dog, Charlie back from Keith Johnson so Danny is over the moon as he has been able to continue to compete. So far since Danny’s op in December,he has won the two BSSF races which makes him the British Champion in the Elite bike class.

The plan next season for me will be getting back on the scooter with Pepsi and Danny will be racing Charlie on the bike. As Danny is ranked number one in the U.K. he has qualified for the World Championships in Poland this November which he will be attending.

Out of the litter, we will be picking one boy to race in the future which means I get Charlie and Pepsi for a two dog team – so it looks like we are back in the sport!!!

We are planning to race at the British championships next year where I will also continue to be the Team Vet.”
Welcome back to the sport and to the CSJ team, Bethan and Danny.

Lottie loves her holiday

By Rachel White

Well we have finally been through Lotti’s holiday photos and it was really difficult to choose which ones to send, so we hope you like the following photos.

Lotti had a wonderful first holiday.

She absolutely adored coming away with the family and was adamant that she wasn’t going to miss out on anything. We walked on the Millennium Coastal Path at Llanelli, that really blew our cobwebs away. Here’s Lottie keeping up with the family.

Lotti wanted to swim in the sea but we stopped her as it was so far away……. we made it up to her by finding a big lake.

We visited lots of parks and fun places and Lotti was thoroughly tired.  She would cuddle up with her cuddly toys and not move from her bed. In the photo above, you can see how Lottie’s brown eyes always work… She always get a tickle!

Lot7

Lottie and her amazing flying ears!

Lotti is still loving Porky Pooch!

But her weight is staying the same.  She is currently at 23.5kg but looking so much fitter and the fat around her body especially her bottom is disappearing.  She is still quite the celebrity where we live and people are always shocked at how well she is looking, which is lovely to hear.
She is still having her No Ake!, which I am sure is giving her the extra boost.  She certainly doesn’t need her medication as much, which makes me so happy.

Here’s Lottie in her snuggly warm jumper after her swim. All wrapped up and nice and warm again. Looking so much younger x

A busy month for Team GB

ML
by Mark Laker

February was a busy month for Team GB activities. The Coaching Team hosted a number of Facebook chat sessions focusing on their specialist subjects. Most of the squad joined in with questions, views and sharing experiences. It was the first time I’ve tried this and it seemed very popular.

I also held the final junior try-out day and the second squad day for the adults. I made a conscious decision at these days to scale back some of the usual activities and focus on dog/handler performance on the agility field; this was a good move, a case of less is more.

Earlier this week we announced the junior team who will be going to Luxembourg in July for the European Open for Juniors (EOJ). We have some great young handlers representing Team GB this year. Exciting times ahead.

Finally, its Crufts week. I’ll be running in the team event on Thursday with my Scunthorpe team mates trying to retain the large dog team winners title we won last year…hope I’ve done enough training!

Three Golds in the crown of Team Spalding

By Suzanne Moore

This weekend was our local Sled Dog Association of Scotland rally at Ford Estates part of the season long championships. Due to heavy rain on Friday the 2.8 mile course was a very technical, very wet and muddy trail.

We were running in the 2 dog nordic scooter with Diamond and Granite who won Gold and they recorded the fastest times on both days for all 2 dog teams.

Dexter ran in the 1 dog open bikejor and had 2 great runs and running 30 secs quicker on day 2 to take the Gold medal.

Cupar at age 9 ran 2 great races and was amazingly consistent to record 2 run times within 2 tenths of a second of each other to win the Gold medal.

We are so proud of our teams with the consistency they are showing over a long season and would like to thank CSJ Specialist Canine Foods for providing the food to keep the dogs in top condition.

Our next race is the SDAS rally at Bowlands trail near Blairgowrie which is the final race in the championship and our final race of the season.

“The dogs are going really well, we’re so proud of them” Suzanne Moore
