Galaxy, Leo, Tigre & Thor sweep up praise across Belgium & Poland

Emma Gates

We had an amazing 2 days showing at the end of June, day one in Belgium and day 2 in Poland, with Galaxy finishing her Belgian championship and gaining title number 16, and getting another point towards her Polish championship.

Galaxy is now known as RBISS/RBIS INT CH, LUX CH, BEL CH, NL CH, GER CH, DCNH CH, JCH BEL ICEWOLF STRIKE A POSE DE LUNARTICO SHCM, ESG16, BWLUX16, ESG17, CSG17, TAN,WPD.

Our Leo (SNOWALLEN THOR DE LUNARTICO SHCM, ASG17, TAN, WPD) also did really well with a 2nd place on day one, and winning the CAC and reserve best male in Poland, and also adding another point towards his polish championship.

Our new team member CWNHAPUS TIGERS EYE FOR SHAALI – Tigre the Siberian husky, owned by Samantha Toomer Shaali Kennels, had a fantastic time with us and received the top grading on both days, and best male puppy in Poland. We have a few more shows before Christmas, and lots of plans already in place for 2019.

We also had a lovely update from the Norwegian Forest Cat Club today on Thor, confirming him as number one male kitten and overall top kitten for 2017, and 3rd top male neuter for 2017 after only 5 shows as an adult. I am so proud of him. he is enjoying a break at the moment, and is currently busy chasing creepy crawlies lol.

South Downs Show 2018

By Terena Plowright

What a joy to run an event where the staff, traders, and the exhibitors & acts were so well organised and so experienced. The event flowed like a dream and everyone was exceptional. I had people from all ages and backgrounds approach me during the show
(and write to me after the event), saying how much they enjoyed it and how amazing everyone was. You are all incredible! Traders feedback was also really encouraging with good sales across the showground, and the food traders seemed to have steady queues but the public did not have too long to wait – perfect.

Numbers attending approx 7,000 (last year 6,500) – again a steady increase. We had over 123 organisations and businesses on site – most from the very local area.

“Thank you Terena it was fabulous – I felt so welcome. I could have known all of you for years.”

“This was a really nice show and l would like to attend next year”

“We really did enjoy the Show and being part of it.”

“Looking forward to next year’s Show”

“Congratulations to Terena and all those involved in the organisation of the Show. What a fantastic Event it was. A big thank you to all those who took part in the main ring and those on the outside. Your presence and contribution made for a wonderful Show and a great atmosphere. Hampshire Horsewatch looks forward to next year’s Show.”

“First Day was very enjoyable. Good crowds attended. Lots to see and do.

“Well done all of you I really don’t think you can improve the show it was perfectly run and had such a good atmosphere.”

“Thanks so much. It is US who need to thank YOU. We all know how much effort goes into organising such an event. As a ‘first timer’, what really struck me was the community spirit and friendliness of the show. I knew it would be like that from the dealings I had with you over the ‘phone. I thoroughly enjoyed the show”

“The visitors I spoke to were lovely and I am sure you have worked hard to target such an audience. So again, well done.”

“Thanks to you and all your staff for another impeccably organised show. There was always at least one of your team visible at all times wherever I was on the showground – not easy to achieve on such a big site. Everything which could be controlled was controlled – only the weather was disappointing. It was especially good to see the ‘early-warning’ signs on the A3 which made hitting the rather sharp turn off at the right speed so much easier.”

“I would like to say how much we enjoyed the show and the opportunity we had to be a part of this show”

“Congratulations to you and your team for hosting a brilliant event!”

“We had a fab day also for the trust, so please do get in Touch for next year!”

“Thank you for the opportunity to trade at this years show. Such a nice setting, my family and I will never tire of taking in the views from the top of the hill. Lots of activities this year for the kids to see and do which was nice although they were hoping to see the reptiles that were there last year. Again food and drink was reasonably priced which for me is a biggie. We trade at festivals throughout the year and food/drink prices have become a major issue with visitors (£2.50 for a can of coke). Toilets were kept clean, staff were very welcoming and friendly.”

Once again, thank you for letting me attend your wonderful event!

News from Jackie Taylor – canine massage therapist

By Jackie Taylor

I raise funds for Morgan’s Dog Rescue which is a rescue centre in Alston in Cumbria that takes in failed working collies primarily and rehomes then into working sports homes such as obedience and agility. I always help her around this time of year in the hope we get enough funds to take us through the winter! It’s pretty bleak up in Alston in the Winter !!

I am a qualified human and canine massage therapist and as part of my
work I also run canine fitness workshops following a muscular assessment and
massage. I plan to travel throughout the country and Northern
Ireland.

I bought in a border collie pup in January this year and as part of his pack
I received CSJ treats to train him, he loved them and I’ve continued to buy
them.  As part of my demonstrations I show handlers from all disciplines how to
keep their dogs in peak performance for their chosen dog sport.

I also help out Team Scotland in the Inter Regional events at Crufts each year, to raise funds to buy them sweatshirts and new collars and leads for the dogs who qualify. This year I am also running an online photo competition to raise funds for the Scottish Inter Regional Team event for Crufts 2019. Calverhall Family Day Dog Show

By Libby Middleton

Calverhall DOg Show 02

Hello, just wanted to say a massive than you to CSJ for sending us so many goodies for our Calverhall Family Day dog show on 2/9/18.

We had an excellent day. The dog show is part of a much bigger village fate (called the Calverhall Family Day), so we have lots of families attending, many of whom bring along their dog. We had a total of 59 entrants spread across 10 classes, with lots of them entering several classes.

Our judge for the day was Amanda Austin, from near by Audlem. Amanda shows Saluki’s and Afghan Hounds. She was excellent, spending time with each dog and their owners and picking some really worthwhile winners. She said the hardest class to judge was the ‘Dog the  Judge would most like to take home’..! With 30 dogs entered it was a very difficult choice and I’m sure she would have taken them all home, but in the end she choose ‘Daisy’, a brindle whippet, in first place. Best in Show went to Coco, a chocolate brown working cocker, owned by Guy Frankfort.

Looking back at the summer of 2018 and looking forward to the AWC in Sweden

kci_dogjumpingBy Mark Laker

The warm weather from July continued into August and as I write this evening the news is that this has been the warmest UK summer on record and we’re likely to get more in the future. That’s good news for most of us who enjoy being outside, maybe not so good for dogs and people who struggle with the heat. I notice most agility dogs are quite sensible about the heat. They go out, do their thing and get back into the shade; although we have a couple of dogs at home who love the summer and have taken every opportunity to lay out in the full heat.

One of the biggest competitions we attend during the year is the Kennel Club International Agility Festival (KCIAF) held at Rockingham Castle in August. Apparently its the biggest dog agility show in the world and certainly attracts hundreds if not thousands of visitors, agility handlers and their dogs. It’s also special because it’s sponsored by CSJ who have a big presence over the four days with a trade stand, goodies, and friendly, helpful CSJ people on hand.

IAFAgility Team GB also had a stand there…well it was an interestingly shaped gazebo placed in a prominent and convenient position near the main arena, so we had good ‘footfall’ too. I took the opportunity to talk to people about the team, how they can get involved, what international championships we attend etc. I also held a number of feedback sessions with the handlers who competed at the European competitions we attended in July. This is a good opportunity to talk about performance, what went well and thoughts for the future. One thing I’ve learn’t about this role is there are always opportunities to improve…I guess that’s true for most things in life.

Moog training

I even managed to run my youngster Moog this year. He is very enthusiastic and struggles with the excitement of a big show like the KCIAF with 17 rings and lots of agility dogs competing at once. However the ‘boy did good’, we worked well together and I felt that our partnership is beginning to come together. We are planning to attend a few competitions over the autumn and winter to continue giving him ring experience which I think he needs most of now.

I’m now focusing on preparations for the Agility World Championships in Sweden next month. The team have organised extra training over the summer, the dogs are looking fit and their performance leading up to the championships is impressive. The World Championships are one of the highlights of the year and I must say I’m really looking forward to going to Sweden. They’re are one of the most exciting teams to watch and I’m sure they’ll put on an amazing event. More about this next month.
