Latest report from the Clwyd Retriever clubs Annual working tests

Clwyd Retriever clubs Annual working tests held on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th July 2021, both kindly sponsored by CSJ Canine Foods, Bodfari -www.csjk9.com or 01745 710470, who provided the winners with some wonderful goodies for their dogs.

We held our Puppy & Novice test on Saturday 17th and our Open test on Sunday 18th both held at Plas Isaf, Rhosant, Halkyn By invitation of Mrs Price & Mr Ian Jones, which we thank them for as it is wonderful ground and as always the land owners where very supportive and helpful providing water troughs around the ground to help keep the dogs cool.

Well done to all those who were in the awards and to all who competed in the tests and we hope that you all had enjoyable days out running your dogs, although the heat was a challenge over both days.

Judges

Our judges on Saturday were Alan Fryer (A), Victoria Waterfield, Gill Awty & John Benyon and on Sunday Andrew Latham (B), Victoria Waterfield, John Benyon & Kevin Jackson, Who we need to say a big thanks to as both days were extremely challenging in the heat and although we tried to provide shade for the waiting dogs and competitors the judges were out in the sun for most of the day.

Thank you

Big thank you to all the helpers and club committee members who all did an amazing job over both days whether they were throwing dummies, placing or stewarding they made the days run smoothly and for most they helped over the both days which is greatly appreciated as without them the tests just would not be able to run, I hope everyone who came to help enjoyed the days. I would like to say a special thanks to Chris Kettle who helped set up the tests with Glenys Caldwell and who organised all the helpers over the 2 days.

Tarryn kindly sent us these photos taken as a result of the show we sponsored.

The show season died with the Covid epidemic. Now with the pick up of shows after lockdown ends, our charity fun shows are due to start and CSJ have supported South Warwickshire Canine Club with some products as prizes.

These were won by our members who entered the show. Everyone had a great time and we raised money for Dementia Care. We have 4 shows booked, starting with the latest fun show on 11th July 2021.

The next shows will be held on 8th, 22nd August and 19th September 2021– our Novelty Champ Show. We try to give a goodie bag to our winners 1st to 6th. We’ve enjoyed having your products before.

“I highly recommend CP30.  A Fantastic food.  I now feed all my dogs on CSJ. I finally found  a food that really gives my dogs the energy thats required for a busy day working,  training & running in field trials.

I also feed it to my whelping bitch to ensure she remains in top condition &  it provides good quality nutrition  to the pups to help in growth & weight gain.”

Lynda Cantelo-Jones tests Chester the working cocker spaniel on CP All Rounder with happy results

I have taken time to write this email as I wanted to make sure that having followed your advice and that of our vet to change Chester over to a different food, it had worked!

I’m pleased to say that I also spoke to Lesley Slade, a stockist on your list and quite local to us here in Fleet, Hampshire, who also suggested the foods that you had mentioned but felt that the CP All Rounder would be her first choice based on Chester’s symptoms and her personal experience of using it.

Chester 1

Meet Chester, watching avidly at The Game Fair – fed on CSJ – “Everyone comments on how glossy his coat is and how bright he is” Lynda Cantelo-Jones

I decided to go ahead with this one and collected a bag the next day from Lesley.  Over the next couple of weeks I introduced the food and Chester responded well.  He has only had a couple of “off days” but those have been helped by giving him half of the vet prescribed Buscopan tablet.

He is now onto his second bag of CP All Rounder, again collected from Lesley, and all is going well, so fingers crossed we have come through the worrying time we had with him in January.

Your advice and the service you at CSJ provide with samples etc is so helpful and I can’t thank you enough.

Best regards

Lynda Cantelo-Jones and Chester the happy working cocker spaniel

That’ll Do! kept the weight and healthy balance throughout all of my dogs

Stuart and Angela AtchisonFrom Stuart and Angela Atchison

Being a new customer this year (2019) using CSJ dog food I feel it’s only right to give you all some feedback about the product I used on my 5 working dogs this grouse season.

With previous dogs and over many years of going on the grouse moors up in Northumberland feeding working gundogs, keeping them up to performance with work was a worry that the dogs never came out the kennels match fit for the job especially when they had just done two days previous on hot, heavy going, tiring days out for the team.

Then I started using CSJ That’ll Do! I was given the name and address of Brian Syms from my good friend Steven Ferguson aka BLACKLEK Gundogs. Brian and Jane only live 15mins away from me on the coast at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland – Brian and Jane couldn’t be more helpful. That’ll Do! kept the weight and healthy balance throughout all of my dogs (3 Labradors and 2 Cocker Spaniels) and I am very impressed with the coats on the dogs, the mess from the dogs was regular and not wet- this is an all-round brilliant dog food for the price and results.

So it’s a big thanks to Brian and Jane and CSJ.

Retriever World Cup 2019 report from Alan Rees

Wales Team Alan Rees 2019.jpg

Well this year was the first time the Retriever World Cup has come to Wales.

The outstanding picturesque estate at Glan Usk was the venue overlooking some of the most outstanding landscape in Wales.

Nigel Probert, the course designer had done a fantastic job with very challenging long retrieves on Llangynidr moor on the first day. He used the full location of the estate and river Usk for the technical retrieves on the second day. What an excellent job.

At the gala dinner on Saturday night, teams from all over Europe were entertained in the land of song by the Bois Goitre Wen Male voice choir. That was an event in itself.

Now onto the event

The ever consistent Scotland, winners for the second time in succession. England came a very close second and Denmark in third.

Wales trailed this year in 9th place, a big disappointment but things just didn’t go well for the home team. At the end of the first day Welsh dogs were prominent with Vickie Stanley leading the field closely followed by Alan Rees and Hayden Willmott. Mike Jones found things a little difficult for his young dog.

The second day followed much the same pattern with failures for Mike, Hayden and Vickie but on a course like this there were numerous bunkers to be overcome.

Hopefully we all have learnt from the experience and will benefit from it in future events.

A big thank you from the team, we all appreciated the support from numerous gundog people that had turned out to support us as well as some of the best dogs and handlers in the world.

On behalf of the team I would like to thank Ceri, Phil and all at CSJ for their continued support.

Diolch,

Alan Rees

Wales Team Captain

Arfon Working Gundog Club Novice AV Retriever Stake

dsc_1385
The Arfon Working Gundog Club held two Retriever Stakes this season.
On the 5th October 2016 an Open one day AV Retriever Stake was held at the Checkley Wood Shoot, Nantwich, Cheshire by kind permission of Mr Ivor Beavis. The judges were Mike Newsom, Keith Bellamy, Sheila Suzuki and Mike Allen.
No awards were made and Guns’ Choice was awarded to Norman Onens with Kestrelway Freddie lab Dog
On the 15th November a Novice AV Stake was held at The Glasfryn Shoot, Pwllheli, Gwynedd by kind permission of Mr Gwilym Jones. The judges were Kevin Bradey, Lynn Mitchell, Mike Allen and Carol Clarke.
The weather when we started off was dull and drizzly and whilst it dried out it remained cloudy.
It was a driven day and on the first drive four dogs were lost and this is how it progressed and by the end of the third drive, three dogs were left for the run off, these became two and eventually one was left to await the judges verdict.
I would like to thank our hosts for the two venues, the judges, the guns and the helpers for both days. Our sponsors CSJ Specialist Canine Feeds, Gary McCarthy of Gundog Gear and to Derek Williams of BASC Wales who presented the winner with a game bag courtesy of BASC.
